Wet Paint (Liquid Coating)
Traditional coating application using solvent-borne or waterborne liquid paint, applied by spray gun, brush, or roller. Wet painting offers unlimited color matching capability and is used where part geometry or cure requirements preclude powder coating.
Wet paint, or liquid coating, remains the finishing choice for applications where powder coating is impractical or where unlimited color matching and customization are required. Traditional wet paint can be applied by spray gun, brush, or roller, offering flexibility in application methods and process control; waterborne and solvent-borne formulations each have specific advantages and environmental considerations.
Wet paint excels for part geometries with deep recesses or complex internal passages where electrostatic powder coating application would create dead zones, and it remains the only option for parts that cannot tolerate the 325-400 degree F curing temperature required for powder coat. Modern low-VOC and waterborne paint formulations are increasingly available, making traditional painting more environmentally compliant.
For custom colors, small-batch productions, or parts with special surface requirements, wet paint provides the control and flexibility that metal finishing engineers and customers expect.
