Weldment
A finished assembly produced by joining two or more metal parts by welding. Weldments range in complexity from simple brackets to intricate machine bases, structural frames, and architectural components.
A weldment is the finished assembly delivered to the customer, ready for installation or integration into a larger system; it may be a simple fabricated bracket or an intricate multi-component subframe totaling thousands of pounds and thousands of inches of fusion. Weldment complexity, material thickness, alloy composition, joint accessibility, and dimensional tolerance, directly influences production lead time, cost, and the sophistication of inspection and quality assurance required.
The design and manufacturing of weldments demands close collaboration between engineering and fabrication teams; design decisions made in CAD, such as the choice between fillet welds and groove welds, or the material thickness and edge preparation, propagate directly to shop floor execution and final cost. After welding completion, post-weld operations such as metal finishing, CNC machining, and testing prepare the weldment for handoff to logistics and eventual field installation.
