V-Die
The lower tooling component of a press brake featuring a V-shaped groove into which material is bent. V-die selection involves matching the die opening to the material thickness, typically 6 to 10 times the material thickness, and the required bend radius.
The V-die is the lower tooling component featuring a V-shaped groove that supports the material from below while the punch drives down from above to create the bend. The width of the V opening (known as the die opening) is the single most critical parameter in press brake setup, directly governing the achievable bend radius, the minimum flange length, and the tonnage required.
V-dies come in a wide range of opening widths and included angles, from narrow dies for thin gauges and tight radii to wide-opening dies for heavy plate and gentle bends. Multi-V dies feature several groove widths on a single die body that can be rotated to present different openings, reducing the number of die changes needed during production.
At Midwest Metal Fabrications, V-die selection is carefully matched to each job's material, thickness, and dimensional requirements to ensure optimal bend quality and efficient machine utilization.
