Mild Steel (A36)
A low-carbon structural steel commonly laser cut in sheet and plate form. Its consistent composition, machinability, and wide availability make it one of the most frequently processed materials in laser cutting operations.
Mild steel (A36) is the most common structural steel and the primary material for most fabrication shops. A36 is economical, widely available, easy to machine and weld, and responds well to laser cutting with oxygen assist gas, producing fast cutting speeds and excellent edge quality.
The material's moderate hardness and forgiving nature make A36 ideal for both precision parts and rough structural work. From enclosure panels and brackets to structural columns and beams, A36 is the default choice when stronger than simple bent sheet is required, yet more economical than specialized alloys.
At Midwest Metal Fabrications, A36 represents the bulk of our fabrication volume, so our equipment and processes are optimized for fast, consistent, high-quality results on this fundamental material.
