Post Cap
A welded or press-formed steel cap fitted to the top of a bollard, guard post, or handrail post. Post caps prevent water intrusion, provide a finished appearance, and eliminate the sharp top edge of the tube or pipe.
Post caps serve a dual purpose as both functional components and finishing elements that distinguish a professionally fabricated assembly from a rough industrial structure. Beyond aesthetics, a properly designed post cap prevents water intrusion into the top of a bollard or handrail post, which would otherwise accumulate inside the hollow tube and promote internal corrosion that eventually weakens the structure from within.
The cap design determines drainage: a sloped top surface with slight lip directs water away from the seam, preventing capillary water retention that causes rust formation. For bollards in salt-air coastal environments or areas subject to winter salt applications, caps are often furnished with internal weep holes that allow moisture to exit while the sloped exterior sheds incoming water.
Press-formed steel caps are fabricated to fit precisely over Standard Schedule 40 or 80 pipe with minimal clearance, eliminating rattling while maintaining a tight, finished appearance that conveys quality workmanship to facility inspectors and safety auditors.
