Part Program
A machine-specific cutting program generated by CAM software that defines the laser's cutting path, speed, power settings, pierce locations, and other parameters for producing a specific part.
A part program is the digital file containing all cutting path geometry, pierce locations, material parameters, and machine instructions to produce a specific part on a CNC press brake or laser cutting system. The program is typically generated from CAD design files using specialized software like Mastercam or Nesting software, which automatically calculates the optimal cutting sequence and converts geometry into machine code.
The same part program can be run thousands of times for repeat orders, ensuring identical results every production run without human decision-making about tool paths or parameters. Modern CAM systems automatically optimize for material waste reduction, cutting speed, and cycle time, while simultaneously checking for potential issues like incomplete pierces or unrealistic standoff distance.
Well-designed part programs are the difference between fast, profitable production and slow, problematic operations that consume time with manual troubleshooting and restart logic.
